More about Jenny Cowton

Jenny has actively worked in the Early Years sector as an Early Years specialist for over 15 years. During this time she has gained her BA (Hons) in the Development and Education of Children and Young people at York St John’s University. In addition, she has Level 3 safeguarding, paediatric first-aid and level 3 Early Years education and training.

Jenny has current and relevant experience as an Early Years Inspection and registration inspector. Her main duties include ensuring that Early Years providers comply with the current Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) learning, development and safeguarding requirements.

Jenny also has experience of supporting cohorts of level 6 students studying for their Early Year’s teacher status. She helps students to develop independent learning skills through problem-solving activities to support their thinking process. Alongside this she offers bespoke training sessions and support to pre-schools, nurseries, childminders and out of school clubs.

Jenny lives in the beautiful city of York with her husband and two children. She spent a number of years managing a local playgroup and working alongside her local authority as an Early Years Specialist. Once her children began secondary school, Jenny decided to pursue her career as an Early Year’s inspector and consultant. This has led to many opportunities that have allowed her to work alongside settings and help to improve the quality of education and practice they offer.

More recently, Jenny has started to work for MBK Group as an Early Years consultant. She enjoys the supportive nature of the role and the flexibility to tailor the support she offers to each individual settings.

Alongside this Jenny also supports many things in the early years. She is an Area lead for the DfE Covid-19 recovery programme and offers targeted interventions to close the gaps in children’s learning caused by the pandemic.

Jenny has a passion for all things early years related and is dedicated to driving improvement within the early years.
